PRACTICAL GUIDE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FIRST

A sober living house checklist worth keeping.

No single residence is right for everyone. Use these questions to clarify day-to-day expectations before making an informed decision.

Platform in development · No treatment, referral, placement, or real-time availability service is currently offered.

Understand the real financial commitment

  • What is the total weekly or monthly amount, and which utilities or meals are included?
  • Are there deposits, administrative fees, testing charges, or transportation costs?
  • What are the payment schedule, refund terms and move-out notice requirements?
  • Does pricing change by room type or household arrangement?

Understand the living environment

  • How many people share bedrooms, bathrooms and common spaces?
  • What are the expectations around meetings, chores, work or school?
  • What are the curfew, guest, noise and overnight-absence rules?
  • Is the home accessible for mobility needs? What transportation is available?

Know the operator and policies

  • Who runs the home, and how can you reach them?
  • What are the written substance-use, medication-storage and conflict procedures?
  • Is the house certified by an organization? If so, which one and is that certification current?
  • What is the process for grievances, resident safety concerns or emergency assistance?

Confirm the details yourself

Treat availability as time-sensitive

Ask the operator directly whether space is currently available and whether any eligibility rules apply. A listing, photo gallery or historic capacity figure is not confirmation of an open bed.

Keep medical or clinical decisions with qualified professionals. Welcome Home Bridge is not a placement or medical advice service.

Explore recovery housing sources.

Use certification searches and region-by-region research as a starting point.
